Blue Biotechnology Section

Who we are

The Blue Biotechnology section of SLBTA aims to harness the potential of marine and aquatic resources for innovative biotechnological applications. This section focuses on research and development in fields such as marine bioengineering, pharmaceuticals derived from marine organisms, sustainable aquaculture, environmental conservation, and the well-being of coastal communities. By fostering collaboration among scientists, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, the Blue Biotechnology section seeks to advance Sri Lanka’s blue economy, promote the sustainable use of marine resources, and contribute to global advancements in biotechnology.
Additionally, the section emphasizes education and training to equip the next generation of biotechnologists with the skills needed for innovative research. Addressing global challenges such as climate change and pollution, the section integrates traditional knowledge with modern science to develop environmentally friendly technologies and practices, ensuring long-term ecological and economic benefits.
